Question 698673: If I lost 50% of all my money and then regained 50% but am now $50 off my old total, what was my old total?
Answer by sofiyac(983) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
lets say you had x dollars, if you lost 50% then you lost half, so x/2. Then you gained back 50% of what you lost so x/4. Looks like you ended up with 50 less than the total so you ended up with x-50. So the equation becomes
x-x/2+x/4=x-50 simplify and solve for x
-0.25x=-50 divide each side by -0.25
x=200
