Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How much pure acid should be mixed with 6 gallons of a 50 % acid solution in order to get an 80 % acid solution?
--------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.50*6 + 1.00x = 0.80(6+x)
------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
50*6 + 100x = 80*6 + 80x
-----
20x = 30*6
x = 9 gallons (amt. of pure acid to be added)
