Question 413599: 5th grade
why is 33.5% of 60 =20.1 and not 2010.0
I counted the decimal places. How do I know where to put it? Found 2 solutions by jim_thompson5910, richard1234:Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You first need to convert the given percentage to decimal form to get 0.335 (you do this by moving the decimal point 2 spots to the left). Now you multiply 0.335 by 60 to get 20.1
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you had 33% of a population of 60 people and someone told you it was 2010, would that make sense? I think not.
Also, I think you multiplied 60*(33.5). However, 33.5 is a "percent," and it should represent the decimal number .335. You can multiply 60*.335 to get 20.100 (here you will get to move the decimal three places to the left), so this is equal to 20.1.
