Find the number of boys and girls in the class on the first day of school.

Let x = no. in the class on the 1st day of school
then
.6x = no. of boys on the 1st day
and
.4x = no. of girls on the 1st day

.75x = .6x+6
.75x - .60x = 6
.15x = 6
x = 6%2F.15
x = 40 is the no. on the 1st day of school
