Question 326191: This is not a request for an answer to my problem, but rather a more clear explanation of the formula used to find the precentage of a number. My current problem is: 35% of $19.40 I need to find the discount and then the sale price. I am currently enrolled in college and I would appreciate any and all assistance that you can provide to me. I found your formula for this and the thing that confused me was the dot. Does it represent a multiplication sign?
Thank you inadvance for the assistance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 35% of $19.40
----
0.35*$19.40 = $6.79

The symbol "*" is often used to indicate multiplication online.
