Let the number of people last year = x
and we are given that this year there is 12% increase ...so
number of people walked this year = x + 12%
or on solving we get = (112/100)x
now we are also given that 1344 people walked this year ....so we get
(112/100)x = 1344
multiply both sides by 100 and we get
112 = 134400
divide both sides by 112/ ,,,and we get ...
x = 1200
so number of people walked last year are 1200...
