How do you work out the percentages increase/decrease between two figures?<<
Ex. What is the percent increase/decrease from 41210 to 38853?
`
1. Divide the "after" number by the "before" number.
2. If you get a decimal answer less than one, then change
` `that decimal answer to a percent and that is the percentage
` `DEcrease.
3. If you get a decimal answer more than one, subtract 1 from
` `it, then change that decimal to a percent and that is the
` `percentage INcrease.
`
Your "after" number is 38853 and your "before" number is 41210.
So we divide 38853/41210 and get .9428. This is less than one,
so we change it to 94.28% DEcrease.
`
-------------------------
`
Now let's pretend your "after number" and "before number" were
reversed. Then we'd have gotten a different answer going from
38853 to 41210, for that would be an INcrease, not a DEcrease.
`
The "after" number now is 41210 and your "before" number is
38853. So we divide 41210/38853 and get 1.0607. This is greater
than one, so we subtract 1 and get .0607, which we write as
6.07% INcrease.
`
But remember, in both cases it always starts out as "A/B", or
"after" divided by "before". Subtract one if more than one.
Then change to a percent.
