What is 16% of y
The meaning of 16% is 16 out of 100
16% of y means the actual qustion is
we ask how many hundreds in y and then multiply it by 16
Therefore 16 % of y is given by (16y/100) = (4y/25)(canceling 5)
Note: To understand this better let us give life to y
say y = 800
Then 16% of 800 is (8X16) = 128
How did we hit upon this 8?
There are 8 hundreds in 800
how?
800/100 = 8
For every 100, we consider 16 (that is the meaning of 16%)
Therefore for eight 100s, we have to consider 8X16 = 128
similaly how many 100s in y
There are (y/100) hundreds in y
For every 100, we consider 16 (that is the meaning of 16%)
Therefore for (y/100) hundreds , we have to consider (y/100)X16
= 16y/100 = 4y/25
