If 40% of the employees are men, then 60% must be women (unless there is some third gender I don't know about), so 30% of 40% is 0.3 times 0.4 = 0.12 = 12%. The men night school students represent 12% of the employee population. Likewise 0.2 times 0.6 = 0.12 = 12% so the women night school students also represent 12% of the employee population. So, 12% plus 12% is 24%.
