Question 268429: okay i took this test the other day and totally failed it because all of the percentage questions were like this: John bought 8 t-shirts for $17.00, after several days the store put those same shirts on sale for 5% off of the regular price so john decided to buy three more shirts and sell them for 15% more than what he bought them for originally. what the difference between the original price and the new price????????????? Please help me!
Answer by drk(1908)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8 t-shirt for $17 means $2.125 / T-shirt
5% off means that 95% still remains. 95% of $2.125 = $2.02
3 more t-shirts at $2.02 = $6.06
----
If he sells only the 3 t-shirts at a markup of 15%, then
1.15* $2.02 = $2.32
3 x $2.32 = $6.69
The different between new and original is 30 cents
