Whenever you think of percentages you should think over 100. If anyone says 50% it means 50 over 100 which is 50/100. Always make a mental note of it that percentage means over 100. The other point to be remembered is that while calculating percentages the word 'of' means to multiply. Let me show you some examples to clarify what I mean :
Eg.1 Calculate 25% of 500
Now as told earlier 25% would mean 25/100
And the word of can be replaced by the sign 'X'
So we have
25/100 X 500
= 25X5
=125
Eg.2 Calculate 52.5% of 2100
Again follow the same steps to get :
52.5/100 X 2100
= 52.5 X 21
= 1102.5
