Question 121994: I have a page size of 210mm X 297mm. I need to place a logo on the page which covers 7% of the total area of the page. How do I work out the dimensions of the logo?
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
TOTAL ARE OF THE PAGE IS:
210*297=62,370 MM^2
7% OF THIS AREA IS:
.07*62,370~4,366 MM^2
ANY 2 DIMENTIONS (LESS THAN 297) WHEN MULTIPLIED TOGETHER THAT EQUALS 4,365.9 MM^2 IS AN ANSWER.
100*X=4,366
X=4,366/100
X=43.66 IS THE SECOND DIMENTION.
100x43.66=4366 IS ONE ANSWER.
IF YOU WANT THE PICTURE TO BE PROPORTIONAL TO THE PAGE THEN:
(297-2X)(210-2X)=4366
62370-420X-594X+4X^2=4366
4X^2-1014X+62370-4366=0
4X^2-1014X+58004=0
USING THE QUADRATIC EQUATION WE GET:
x = (-b +- sqrt( b^2-4*a*c ))/(2*a) }}
X=166.3 & 87.2
2*166.2=332.4 WHICH IS MORE THAN THE WIDTH & LENGTH. THUS NOT AN ANSWER.
2*87.2=174.4 WHICH IS THE SUM OF THE 2 BORDERS.
THUS WE HAVE THE DIMENTIONS OF:
297-174.4=122.6
210-174.4=35.6
122.6*35.6~4366
