The discounted price is

Redo --- 25% off means 75% still kept.

Your process is right, but your calculations are not.

25% of $530 is $132.50, not $13.25; then the sale price is $520-$132.50 = $387.50.

You should be able to realize that your calculations were not right; one quarter of $500 plus dollars can't be only $13.50.

Whenever possible, in any problem, look at an answer you have obtained to see if it is reasonable.

Your $516.75 and his $387.50 are WRONG.
Correct amount: $397.50.
Surely I don't need to show/tell you how to obtain that correct answer, do I?

There are two methods we could use to find the sale price and discount.

Method 1:
Discount = 25% of 530 = 0.25*530 = 132.50
You save $132.50
sale price = original - discount = 530-132.50 = 397.50

Method 2:
You save 25%, so you pay the remaining 75%
sale price = 75% of 530 = 0.75*530 = 397.50
discount = originalPrice - salePrice = 530-397.50 = 132.50

When it comes to computing the sale price only, I recommend the second option.
The second option is handy if you chain together multiple discounts.
Also, it's useful to determine the price after taxes and other fees.

Answers:
Discount = $132.50 (this is the amount you save)
Sale Price = $397.50
