Per cent means per one hundred. So, "something" per cent means
"something"/100. The problem says "What" percent. That sounds like
x, the unknown. In other words, x%2F100 is "what" per cent
Reading further, it asks "what per cent of 50" That's the same as
%28x%2F100%29%2A50. And this is suppossed to equal 45.
%28x%2F100%29%2A50+=+45 is the equation. Solve for x
50x+=+45%2A100
x+=+4500+%2F+50
x+=+90
So, 45 is 90% of 50
