Question 1035808: How can I teach someone to EASILY solve this percent problem WITHOUT a calculator?: A box weighs 33.1 pounds and is 14% of the ENTIRE shipment. Find the weight of the ENTIRE shipment.
Answer by jorel555(1290)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If a box weighing 33.1 pounds represents 14% of an entire shipment, then your entire shipment is 33.1/.14 pounds:
.14n=33.1
n=33.1/.14
n=33.1/14/100=33.1/7/50 or approximately 33.1 divided by 1/7; which equals approximately 33.1*7, or 231.7!!!!!!(actually, 236.428, by calculator)
