Question 6456: What formula do I use to show what percentage of 1,664 is 18?
If Ann works a 32-hour week, except for 2 months of the year, her actual hours worked in a year is 1,646, not (32 * 52). For 2 months, she works 30 hours, which reduces her yearly total by 18 hours. Since her leave is awarded based on a 32 hour week, we need to reduce that award by whatever percentage 18 is of the full yearly hours, as above.
Annual vacation leave for 32-hour week = 128 hours
" sick " = 76 hours
The best guesstimate is .01% which is of course closer to 17.25 hours, and could be used for this purpose, but is there a better formula?

Now I know the answer is 80 cents, but I don't know how that answer was found.
When I try and solve, I come up with 76.8 cents. There has to be something I'm forgetting to do.

Question 9359: I was able to solve Marilyn Savant's Monty Hall question yet this one fooled me at first because intuitively I would add the percentages in the following question and then solve for the final value discount however the “correct answer” requests you to solve using a different method (solve for the first discount and proceed to solve for the next discount)
I just want to know why you would solve this way .8 x .85 x 450 = $306 and not this way .65 x 450 = $292.50…
