Question 26874: Hello from cold cold Finland
Ok I have the following problem, or actually I have a few problems that are
similar but have little idea about how they should be solved. Anyway the problem
is as follows:
"When the price of a product was reduced by 20%, the sales in euros rose by 4%.
Find the percentage increase in the number of products sold."
Hope that you don't feel insulted if I mention that euros are the currency
used in Finland and most countries in the European Union. Just thought I'd
err on the side of caution and mention this fact.
Ok that's it really. This question is from an old entrance examination paper
for a school that I would like to attend and I would be very grateful for any
assistance that you could give me. I took a look at your other percentage problems and found a few quite interesting.
Thanks again for any instance that you are able to give.
Take care.

Question 27343: Here is a word problem
In 2002 the average male with a bachelors degree or above earned about $78,000. This was 66% more than the average woman with a comparable background. How much did the average woman with a comparable background earn? The answer is $46,987.95. However I cant find the right equation to achieve this answer. Here's two examples of what I've tried (a=average for women)
$78,000= a + 0.66
-0.66 -0.66
_________________
7999.34=a not correct
$78,000(0.66)=a
$51480=a not correct
I need help! Thx.

Question 28174: Hello! I homeschool my daughter, and have the answer to this particular problem, but can't figure out how they arrived at the answer. We may end up finding out that I have to call them to tell them that THEIR answer is incorrect. :)))
"A man bought a desk for $125. After spending $75 on repairs, he sold the desk for $350. What was his percent of profit based on the cost?"
The answer in the teacher manual is 120%. Can anyone help me, so that I can better explain to my daughter the steps taken to solve this problem? I tried x over 100 times $150 (profit) = $200 (cost). Help! Thanks!
