Question 505152: The question is:
Find the original price of a pair of boots if the sales price is $120 after a 20% discount.
I know the original price is $150 because I took 20% and subtracted it from 100% to get 80% and then turned 80 into .80 and divided it into 120 to get the original price but what is the correct actually formula I should have used in order to get the price?

Question 509246: i have a pie chart that i need to complete. However, it is all in percentages and i need to covert those percentages in to numbers to work out the total number and draw the pie chart. laundry is 20%. Toilet flushing is 30%. Kitchen and drinking is 10%. Shower and bath is 35%. Cleaning is 5%. please answer quickly as i need to hand this in tomorrow.

Question 511801: I would like to know the formula for subtracting a percentage from a whole. For example: 550-(minus)30%.
I am sure this is easy but I have no clue. I can add 30% but I cannot figure out how to back it out of(or subtract it from)the whole.
Having never taken any kind of algebra I cannot articulate the jargon either.
