Question 187879: log base 3 (x) = log base 3 (1/x)+4
i understand that log base 3 (1/x) is subtracted so the problem could look something like this log base 3 (x) -log base 3 (1/x)=4
have one question doesnt 1 and x become log base 3 (1)- log base 3 (x)
the answer is 9, -9 but i dont know how to set up the problem i am stuck

i understand (X-6)/(X-2) = LOG X - LOG 5
""WHY DOES X GOES WITH (X-6) AND 5 GOES WITH (X-2)""""
so the problem goes something like this x(x-6)/5(x-2)=10^0 =1
x^2-6x=1*5(x-2) = which is x^2-11x-10=0

: Use the change of base formula to convert log5(like an exponent on the bottom)and (3x)^4 to base e. Then evaluate when x=7.
I worked it out to: =4(ln3+ln7/ln)
I know I'm supposed to enter this into the calculator, but I know I'm not coming out with the right answer. This question is from textbook saxon algebra 2

Question 189926: The problem is:
Assume the cost of a loaf of bread is $4. With continuous compounding, find the time it would take for the cost totriple at an annual inflation rate of 6%.
This seemed simple at first and I can figure it out the long way by compounding the interest each year, but I know there must be a formula I can set up to plug in and get the answer much quicker - thanks for your help!
