6 + ln(x) = 8
subtract 6 from both sides to get ln(x) = 2
ln(x) = 2 if and only if e^2 = x
solve for x to get x = 7.389056099
6 + ln(x) = 8 becomes 6 + ln(7.389056099) = 8 which becomes 6 + 2 = 8
you're done.
x = 7.389056099
