I'm going to assume that the function is


Basic outline: replace f(x) with y, swap x and y, then solve for y.


Start with the given function.


Replace f(x) with y.


Swap x and y. The goal is to solve for y.


Subtract 4 from both sides.


Flip the equation.


Convert to exponential form to solve for y.


So the inverse function is
