Question 856495: Express log base of 3 (x+2) = 5 in exponential form.
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
log3(x+2) = 5 if and only if 3^5 = x+2
solve for x to get x = 3^5 - 2
simplify to get x = 241
put the following in your calculator to see if the calculator gives you 5 as the answer:
LOG(241+2)/LOG(3)
I did in my calculator and the answer is 5 as it should be if you translated to the exponential form correcly.
the general equation is:
logb(a) = c if and only if b^c = a
in your case:
a is equal to x+2
b is equal to 3
c is equal to 5
that's why you got what i placed on the first line, which was:
log3(x+2) = 5 if and only if 3^5 = x+2
