Question 85269: -I'm kind of stumped on this one. I know that I need to use newton law of cooling, but when I do it dosnt seem to work out right.-
The hotel Bora-Bora is having a pig roast. At noon, the chef puts the pig in a large earthen oven. The pig's original temperature is 75 degrees F. At 2:00 PM the chef checked the pigs temperature and was upset because it had reached only 100 degrees F. If the oven's temperature remains a constant 325 degrees F, at what time may the hotel serve its guests, assuming that pork is done when it reaches 175 degrees F?

At noon, the chef puts the pig in a large earthen oven. The pig's original temperature is 75 degrees F. At 2:00 PM the chef checked the pigs temperature and was upset because it had reached only 100 degrees F. If the oven's temperature remains a constant 325 degrees F, at what time may the hotel serve its guests, assuming that pork is done when it reaches 175 degrees F?
--------------
You have two points: (0,75) and (2,100)
Find the equation relating temperature and time in the oven.
slope = [100-75]/[2-0] = 25/2 = 12.5
intercept: 75 = 12.5*0+b; b=75
EQUATION:
temperature = 12.5x +75
-------------
When will the temp be 175?
12.5x+75 = 175
12.5x = 100
x= 8 hours
-----------------
Pork will be ready at 8:00 PM
