Question 848888: Please help I've tried so many times!
The energy E(x) of an electron after passing through material of thickness x is given by the equation
E(x) = E (base 0) e^(-x/x0) where E0 is the initial energy and x0 is the radiation wavelength.

(a) Express, in terms of E0, the energy of an electron after it passes through material of thickness x0.
E(x0) =

(b) Express, in terms of x0, the thickness at which the electron loses 91% of its initial energy. (Round your coefficient to two decimal places.)
x =

Hi,
E(x) = E[0]e^(-x/x0)
E(x0) = E[0]e^(-x0/x0)
E(x0) = E[0]e^(-1)
loses 91% of its initial energy ( 9% remains)
E(x) = E[0]e^(-x/x0)
E(x)\E[0] =e^(-x/x0)
.09 =e^(-x/x0)
ln(.09)= -x/x0
(-x0)ln(.09) = x
