Question 741440: If log5=a and log4=b, express the logarithm in terms of a and b.
log 10
I comprehend how to do simple ones such as log0.16 and it would be b-(a+a) correct? But for complex ones such as log10 I'm not sure how you would show addition because I know you' d have to use the 5 and add 5+5 but with logarithms when you multiply you have to add and when you divide you have to subtract, so I'm not sure what you do when you actually have to add. Sorry to trouble you, I am truly troubled, and am a good student! I'd appreciate a fast response, but will be thankful for whatever I receive.
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let y = log(10)
y+y = log(10)+log(10)
2y = log(10*10)
2y = log(100)
2y = log(5*5*4)
2y = log(5)+log(5)+log(4)
2y = a+a+b
2y = 2a+b
y = (2a+b)/2
So remember we let y = log(10)
So if log(5) = a and log(4) = b, then
