The base of the following logs is 2.
log2(x-1) - log2(x+3) = log2(1/x)
-----
log2[(x-1)/(x+3)] = log2(1/x)
------
Take the antilog of both sides:
(x-1)/(x+3) = 1/x
----
Cross-multiply:
x^2-x = x+3
------
x^2 -2x - 3 = 0
---
Factor:
(x-3)(x+1) = 0
Positive solution:
x = 3
