7e^(3x-2) = 13
e^(3x-2) = 13/7
3x-2 = ln(13/7)
x = (ln(13/7) + 2)/3

First isolate the base and its exponent. Subtracting 2 we get:

Next we will use logarithms. We will get the simplest possible expression for an answer if we match the base of the logarithm to the base of the exponent. So we will base e logarithms (i.e. ln):

Now we use a property of logarithms, , which allows us to move the exponent of the argument out in front of the logarithm. (This property is the very reason we use logarithms. It allows us to move the exponent, where the variable is, out to where we can "get at it" with algebra.)
