Question 621310: Okay. So we were given homework for summer. But there's one big problem. I don't remember learning this. And I've looked everywhere to find help on how to solve it. So if you could explain the steps. That would be very appreciated. So I can use it as a model when solving other problems like it. Thank you=)
27^(x+1) = 9^(2x-4)
The exponents are (x+1) and (2x-4)

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

note that 27 = 3^3 and 9 = 3^2, so we can rewrite this to

If the bases are equal, the exponents are equal, so we have
3(x+1) = 2(2x-4)
:
3x + 3 = 4x - 8
3 + 8 = 4x - 3x
11 = x
;
:
Check this on your calc, (replace x with 11)
27^12 = 1.5(10^17)
9^18 = 1/5(10.17)
