Question 505295: Solve By Factoring

Answer by Maths68(1474)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x^2+5x-2=0
3x^2+6x-x-2=0
3x(x+2)-1(x+2=0
3x(x+2)-1(x+2)=0
(3x-1)(x+2)=0
3x-1=0 or x+2=0
3x=1 or x=-2
3x=1 or x=-2
x=1/3 or x=-2
Check
Put the value of x=1/3 in original equation
3x^2+5x-2=0
3(1/3)^2+5(1/3)-2=0
3(1/9)+(5/3)-2=0
(1/3)+(5/3)-2=0
Multiply by 3 both sides of the equation
3*(1/3)+3*(5/3)-3*2=3*0
1+5-6=0
6-6=0
0=0
Put the value of x=-2 in original equation
3(-2)^2+5(-2)-2=0
3(4)-10-2=0
12-10-2
2-2=0
0=0
