In general, the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is given by
a(n) = a(1) + (n-1)d
In our given sequence, a(1) = 3, n = 17, and d = 6 (the common difference)...thus we get
a(n) = 3 + (n-1)(6)
a(17) = 3 + (17-1)(6)
a(17) = 3 + 96 = 99
