adding logarithms is analogous to multiplying quantities; while subtracting logarithms is analogous to dividing quantities

log5(2/3) = [log5(2)] - [log5(3)]

log5(10/9) = log5[(5*2)/(3^2)] = [log5(5)] + [log5(2)] - {2[log5(3)]}
