Question 420445: log2 (x-3)+log2 x-log2 (x+2)=2
Answer by nerdybill(7384)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
log2 (x-3)+log2 x-log2 (x+2)=2
log2 x(x-3) -log2 (x+2)=2
log2 x(x-3)/(x+2)=2
x(x-3)/(x+2)=2^2
x(x-3)/(x+2)=4
x(x-3)=4(x+2)
x^2-3x=4x+8
x^2-7x=8
x^2-7x-8=0
(x-8)(x+1) = 0
x = {8, -1}
throw out the -1 -- extraneous
leaving
x = 8
