is a solution to this equation if, after substituting for x, the equation is a true statement. So we substitute:

and then figure out if this is true. If you understand logarithms well and know that the base of ln is e, then you already know the answer. If not, then...

Using a property of logarithms, , we can move the exponent out in front:
9*ln(e) = 9
Since ln(e) = 1 by definition, this becomes:
9*1 = 9
or simply
9 = 9
