Question 313582: Solve the problem.
The amount of particulate matter left in solution during a filtering process decreases by the equation P = 900(0.5)0.4n , where n is the number of filtering steps. Find the amounts left for n = 0 and n=5. (Round to the nearest whole number.)

THis is a simple substitution problem. They give you an equation and two values for n. You just have to plug those values in.
P = 900(0.5)0.4n
if n=0 then P=900(.5)*.4*0
and-------->p=0
if n=5 then p=900(.5)*.4*5
and-------->p=900
