Question 310004: How do you solve:
1-2tanX=secX
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1-2tanX=secX
Multiply by cos(x)
cos - 2sin = 1
cos = 2sin + 1
cos = sqrt(1 - sin^2)
sqrt(1 - sin^2) = 2sin + 1
Square both sides
1 - sin^2 = 4sin^2 + 4sin + 1
5sin^2 + 4sin = 0
sin*(5sin + 4) = 0
sin(x) = 0
x = 0 ± n*pi, n = 0,1,2,3...
Principal solution = 0
-------------
5sin(x) = 4
sin(x) = 4/5
x = arcsin(4/5)
x =~ 0.9273 radians
