if on a checker board pennies were placed on all squareseg.1 on first square 2on 2nd. 4 on 3rd.how much would have to be placed on the 32nd.square.thanks in advance for your help.

Answer by longjonsilver(2297)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
to get the ratio between terms, you can use neighbouring terms.

First term = a
Second term = ar

ar/a is r, the common ratio

So, first term is 1 and second term is 1/2, so r is (1/2)/1 --> r=1/2

10th term is --> 1*(1/2)^9 --> 1/512

Sequence 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ... are powers of 2: , , etc

So, on 32nd square we would have coins.
