I got a different answer to vleith. In the question I assumed that log has a base of x? Is this incorrect?
log(base x) (3x+10) = 2 (This means what number power to base x gives 3x+10)
3x+10 = x^2
10 = x^2 - 3x
10= (x-(3/2))^2 - 9/4
(49/4)^(1/2) = x - (3/2)

x = +3.5 + 3/2 OR x = -3.5 + 3/2
x = 5 OR x = -2
