Question 207052: Please Please I need help solving a problem in algebra.
The problem is that I am trying to find the logarithmic formula for finding
the pH of a substance. The substance that I am using is a grapefruit. The pH is 3.3. Can you help me find the formula. Thank you very much for helping me.

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
pH is the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration in a solution

the concentration is usually represented by [H+] ___ and measured in moles per liter
___ H is the chemical symbol for hydrogen; and the ion has a positive charge

the pH of water is 7 because the [H+] is 10^-7 moles/liter

so the [H+] of grapefruit is the number whose logarithm is -3.3
___ something between 10^-3 and 10^-4

taking the inverse log on a calculator ___ [H+] = 5.0 x 10^4 (approx)
