using rules for logs __ log2{[x(x+5)]/3^2}=2 __ (x^2+5x)/9=4 __ x^2+5x=36

x^2+5x-36=0 __ factoring __ (x+9)(x-4)=0

x+9=0 __ x=-9 __ logs not defined for negative quantities

x-4=0 __ x=4
