Question 142795: Could someone please help me with a few log word problems?
1)An earthquake has an amplitude of 5,000 micrometers and a period of 0.2 second.Find its measure on the Richter scale.
2)An earthquake with a period of 1/4 second has an amplitude of 2,500 micrometers. Find its measure on the Richter scale.
The formula for these two problems is: R = Log A/P R - means richter scale, A- means amplitude of earthquake,and P- means length of time that it last
I thank you for your help,so much because I have a learning disability,and I'm glad this site is here to help people like me.

Could someone please help me with a few log word problems?
1)An earthquake has an amplitude of 5,000 micrometers and a period of 0.2 second.Find its measure on the Richter scale.
R = log[5000/0.2] = log5000 - log0.2 = 3.699
================================================
2)An earthquake with a period of 1/4 second has an amplitude of 2,500 micrometers. Find its measure on the Richter scale.
R = log[2500/(1/4)] = log[10,000] = 4
-------------------------------
The formula for these two problems is: R = Log A/P R - means richter scale, A- means amplitude of earthquake,and P- means length of time that it last
