When you see an equation like:
b%5Ey+=+x you can write the equivalent in "log form" as:
Log%5Bb%5D%28x%29+=+y where b = the base of the logarithm.
Applying this to your problem:
3%5Ex+=+y can be written in "log form" as: Log%5B3%5D%28y%29+=+x
These two forms are equaivalent.
The first one: 3%5Ex+=+y is called the "exponential form"
The second one:Log%5B3%5D%28y%29+=+x is called the "log form"
