Question 126232: Express this as a single logarithm:
1) log(x2-4)- 2 log(x+2)
( the first 2 is squared)
Answer by uma(370) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) log(x2-4)- 2 log(x+2)
= log(x^2-4) - 2 logx(x+2)
= log(x^2-4) - log(x+2)^2 [ property of log]
= log [ (x^2-4) / (x+2)^2][property of log]
= log[ (x+2)(x-2)/(x+2)(x+2)] [ factored x^2-4]
= log[ (x-2)/(x+2)][cancelled the common factor]
good luck
