Question 1190257: An earthquake had an intensity of 199,526,231 Io. Find the Richter Scale magnitude of the earthquake using M=log〖I/Io〗, where M is the magnitude of the earthquake, I is the intensity of the shock waves, and Io is the measure of the intensity of a zero-level earthquake.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
M=log (199526231)=8.22
can check. This is about 2 x 10^8, so the magnitude mss 8+log 2, and the latter is 0.3010, so at 200 million it would be magnitude 8.3.
