Question 1190191: A solution contains hydrogen ion concentration of 1x10-11 moles per liter. What is its pH value
Answer by math_tutor2020(3817) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
pH level = -log[ hydrogen ion concentration ] .... the log is base 10
pH = -log[ H+ ]
pH = -log[ 1 * 10^(-11) ]
pH = -log[ 10^(-11) ]
pH = -(-11)*log[ 10 ]
pH = -(-11)*1
pH = 11
In step 5, I used the log rule log(x^y) = y*log(x) to pull down the exponent.
A pH of 11 is moderately alkaline.
It's about midway between pH = 7 and pH = 14.
Ammonia solution (cleaning product) is one example of a chemical with pH of 11.
pH = 0 is the strongest acid
pH = 7 is neutral
pH = 14 is the strongest alkaline
