Question 1189097: Express the following as a single logarithm and simplify.
• 3/4 loga x - 1/2 loga y
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
start off with 3/4 * loga(x) - 1/2 * loga(y)
this becomes:
loga(x^(3/4) - loga(y^(1/2)) which becomes:
loga(x^(3/4) / y^(1/2))
i confirmed by letting x = 7 and y = 3 and a = 10.
the original equation becamre:
3/4 * log10(7) - 1/2 * log10(3) = .3952629027
this became:
log10(7^1/4) / 3^(1/2)) = .3952629027.
this confirms the conversion is correct.
your solution is loga(x^(3/4) / y^(1/2)).
it is simplified as best i can determine.
if that's not the answer they are looking for, let me know what is and i'll explain how they got it.
