.
I want to make couple notices regarding this post.
(1) It is WRONG to call the angle Φ "the phase shift", as the post makes it in its first sentence.
Φ is not phase shift - it is phase angle, instead.
This one single fact shows me clearly that the "problem" is created by the person, who does not know base terminology
and base conceptions in full.
(2) Now, the question asks to describe initial condition of the experiment.
But they ARE JUST DESCRIBED in the text: the initial condition is WHAT HAPPENS at t= 0 ----- simply read your text.
(3) Next, the question asks "describe the direction in which it was traveling".
It is not absolutely clear to which time moment this request relates, but from the context, I may assume that
the question relates to the time interval immediately following after t= 0.
Again, the answer is clear from the text: at t= 0 the weight was at its maximum positive position,
so after t= 0 it moves down, obviously.
So, my dear visitor, I do not understand your panic:
you simply do not want to read your own text or are not able to understand what is written in it.
The problem ONLY REQUIRES __YOU__ read the text attentively and __YOU__ find
the answers to questions right INSIDE the TEXT.
Have a nice day.

"Hope this is the right topic. Sorry if it isn't!"
Surely, it is not a right topic for your post.
But at this forum NOBODY cares about the topic to which he (or she) places his (or her) post.
So, do not use these "introductory words" at all - they do not make sense and only IRRITATE.
