Answer by Edwin McCravy(20065)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if A=log 189base13 and B=log521base23 then which is greater?

can be written as

We try A = 1, 2, and 3

First we try A=1

No, 1 is too small for A.

So we try A=2

No, 2 is still too small for A.

So we try A=3

No, 3 is too large for A.

So now we know that A is between 2 and 3.

can be written as

We try B = 1, 2, and 3

First we try B=1

No, 1 is too small for B.

So we try B=2

No, 2 is too large for B.

So now we know that B is between 1 and 2.

Since we know that A is between 2 and 3, and
we know that B is between 1 and 2, and --

we know that a number between 2 and 3 is greater
than a number between 1 and 2.

So which is greater, A or B? You answer!
