Question 1148377: Determine logarithm of 2113.
My attempted solution of using log table:
log 2110 = 3243
log 2120 = 3263

Difference of 2120 and 2110 = 10
Difference of 3263 and 3243 = 20
Difference of 2113 and 2110 = 3

10/20 * 3 = 1.5
2110 + 1.5 = 2111.5
Unsure of steps and answer.

log 2110 = 3243
log 2120 = 3263

Difference of 2120 and 2110 = 10
Difference of 3263 and 3243 = 20
Difference of 2113 and 2110 = 3

10/20 * 3 = 1.5

2110 + 1.5 = 2111.5

That answer doesn't make sense; the answer has to be between 3243 and 3263.

The "10/20" part of that first calculation tells you how much the "inputs" (2110 and 2120) change compared to how much the "outputs" (3243 and 3263) change. That's not what you want; you want how much the outputs (3243 and 3263) change compared to the inputs (2110 and 2120).

In that second calculation, you are adding the additional amount to the lower input(2110); you want to add the additional amount to the lower output (3243).

Log tables and trig tables are obsolete and archaic.
We should use Roman numerals when using tables.
