A team of archaeologists recovered wooden artifacts believed to be 40000 yrs old. How much carbon-14 has been lost from wood.
:
The half-life of carbon 14 is 5730 yrs. assume 100 units of wood
A = 100 * 2^(-40000/5730)
A = 100 * .007917
A = .79% remains
therefore
100 -.79 ~ 99.2% has been lost in 40000 years
