Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For the x value:
(-1-2)/2=-3/2=-1.5
-1+1.5=.5 or 2-1.5=.5 for the x midpoint.
-------------
6-1=5/2=2.5
6-2.5=3.5 or 1+2.5=3.5 for the y midpoint.
Ans.(.5,3.5)

How do you solve this problem using the midpoint formula? R(2,6) M(-1,1)
I assume R is one endpoint and the M is the midpoint
Let (x,y) be the other endpoint. Then for this example the midpoint is calculated by averaging the x and y coordinates of the endpoints. That is,
and
and
and
So the other endpoint is (-4,-4)
As a check between the two endpoints (-4,-4) and (2,6), let's calculate the midpoint.
is the x-coordinate for the midpoint.
is the y-coordinate for the midpoint.
So the midpoint is (-1,1) which is same as before.
I hope the above steps were helpful.
